There are fewer higher accolades in the metal world than being known to have had a direct massive influence on Metallica. I realise they have much in common with their Scandinavian peers Mercyful Fate, (besides the white Flying V), in that they hit the scene seemingly from out of nowhere with an epic bombastic sound that was fully formed, with an idiosyncratic and very talented singer, and in this case were it not for management incompetence and their problematic singer they were surely destined for greatness (touted by a popular reviewer as "the next Led Zeppelin"). No less than Dave Mustaine named Brian Tatler as one of his two all-time fave guitarists (other being Steve Jones). I love his songwriting style that is a little less on the aggressiveness, with a focus on the soulfulness/melody, but yet totally uncompromising to commerciality- he can play the same riff 24 times straight and you will somehow keep nodding your head to it.
One can also draw parallels between Sean Harris and Paul Di'Anno, both outstanding & hugely talented frontmen in the early "NWOBHM", who through their own immature decisions and self-destructive behaviour, doomed themselves to failure and obscurity. Unfortunately in Sean Harris' case, unlike Iron Maiden; also torpedoed the promising band's career.
